My Sisters' Place History

My Sisters’ Place was founded in 1982 as shelter to provide a safe and nurturing place for single women and women with infants and children in Hartford who had nowhere else to turn. Today, the organization has grown to encompass three permanent sites, which provide a wide-range of transitional and supportive housing and housing coordination/rapid re-housing services for women, children and men throughout the Greater Hartford community.

Even though the scope of our services has expanded over time, our mission still remains the same as it did over three decades ago: to end homelessness by empowering people through new, innovative cost-effective and compassionate approaches.
